How to Find B2B Leads with ChatGPT (Step-by-Step)
To find B2B leads with ChatGPT, give a project your business and buyer context, build a search guide, then request a company prospect list. In the video we create 20 company prospects with sources, buying triggers and a suggested person to contact, then review how to refine the results.
Steps shown in the video
- 0:12
1. Create a ChatGPT project
Open Projects in ChatGPT and create a new project for your prospecting work.
- 0:39
2. Give ChatGPT your business context
Point ChatGPT to your website and ask it to identify who you sell to and ask clarifying questions. In the video we explain that the goal is to supply the project with context for finding prospects.
- 1:15
3. Answer the buyer questions
Clarify the offer, the buyers you want to pursue and the geography. The example then narrows the company profile to industrial, manufacturing and distribution businesses.
- 2:28
4. Review the context file
ChatGPT assembles a prospecting context file after the questions and answers. In the video we review the file as the foundation for future prospecting.
- 3:01
5. Save the context to project sources
Add the context file to the project sources so new chats in that project can use it.
- 3:09
6. Build a prospect search guide
Start a new chat inside the project and ask ChatGPT for a document of digital search methods. Include non-digital channels in a separate section.
- 4:15
7. Separate free and paid sources
Ask ChatGPT to distinguish free and paid options in both the digital and non-digital sections. Save the revised search guide to the project.
- 4:44
8. Request 20 company prospects
Ask for company names, sources, search methods, buying triggers and the suggested person to contact next. The video starts at company level before researching individual people.
- 5:35
9. Review and refine the results
Inspect the company list and its buying triggers. The video suggests tightening a future list by the recency of the trigger or by geography.

Build the business context
Hey, my goal is to supply this project with the necessary context for us to find more prospects for this business. Can you go read through our website here and figure out who we're selling to, or who it seems like we're selling to, and ask me questions clarifying so that we can put together a good guiding set of context so that we can later ask for our AI to go and find prospects for us and reliably get good prospects out of that.
Spoken in the video at 0:43; provide the website being discussed.
Build the search guide
I'd like you to put together a document just like you put together our Aravise context for understanding our buyers. This document is going to be all about how to find these prospects in an all-digital channel. If you think of a way that is a non-digital channel, add it in there, but add it in as a separate section. We're going to have a file of all the different ways we can search for these people.
Spoken in the video at 3:34.
Separate free and paid methods
Could you please edit the document to make sure that there's a clear delineation between free and paid in both the digital and non-digital options?
Spoken in the video at 4:28.
Create the company list
Could you please put together a list of 20 prospects for us using the sources that you have available as far as where we should be looking, as well as who we should be looking for? Specifically, I want you to put together this company list. Include the name, where you got the prospect from, what method you used to get to them, specifically if there was a certain website that you went to on the sources or the searches, as well as the buying trigger as to why we would be going after them, and then the suggested next step of what person at the company we should be reaching out to.

Hey there. In this video, I'm going to be showing you how to find prospects for your business starting from zero, using a brand new project on ChatGPT. Let's go ahead and get started. So the first thing you'll do is once you've signed up for ChatGPT, go into the projects and create a new project. What we're going to do first is understand about the business and the problem we're trying to sell to before just saying, go find me prospects.
- 0:26
That's one of the first learnings. We need to assemble a context layer so that our AI knows how to help us better. So if you have a website like myself, you can go ahead and just point it towards that website and you can say, hey, my goal is to supply this project with the necessary context for us to find more prospects for this business.
- 0:52
Can you go read through our website here and figure out who we're selling to or who it seems like we're selling to and ask me questions clarifying so that we can put together a good guiding set of context so that we can later ask for our AI to go and find prospects for us and reliably get good prospects out of that. All right, so we got the result back here and we can say that it really did a good job trying to understand our business.
- 1:22
So first thing it wanted to clarify was which paid offer should the prospect lists aim to sell. Private AI coaching is probably what we want to go with. Which buyers would you most like us to pursue? And any one of these owners, CFO, COOs, sales and department leaders. Where should we concentrate? Probably, United States first. Right? All right, so we got some more questions here. What does coaching cost today?
- 1:49
Who represents your ideal client? Who should we exclude? Okay, we'll say coaching is one on one and it's done hourly. Call it fifteen hundred dollars a month for an executive. Who, who represents your ideal client? likely industrials companies. Anyone under 500 million in revenue. Anyone over 20 million in revenue.
- 2:17
We should probably exclude SaaS companies or high technology companies. Let's just keep it more into the manufacturing, industrials distribution space. All right, so it looks like it is finished here. We worked for about 20 minutes asking and answering questions to help it better understand our business. Who we sell to and maybe the themes that we sell against. Now it's assembled this Aravise prospecting context file, which is going to be the bedrock of our prospecting and really our outreach efforts.
- 2:50
This is AI's understanding of our business. And because we've gone through this, we've done the hard work, this is going to set us up for success. It really is. So the next thing we're going to do, we're going to add it to our project sources so that any new chat that we have inside this project, we're going to actually have access to this context. All right, so we are back inside our project here where we've already loaded in the context that we've just generated.
- 3:17
We worked and we curated with our ChatGPT. We've loaded it into the project. Now we're going to ask it to go and find all digital channels that we should be looking at and that it can go and research for us to find these prospects. So let's go ahead and do that. I'd like you to put together a document just like you put together our Aravise context for understanding our buyers. This document is going to be all about how to find these prospects in an all digital channel.
- 3:50
If you think of a way that is a non digital channel add it in there, but add it in as a separate section. So we're going to have a file of all the different ways we can search for these people. Alrighty. So it looks like it came back and it finished up. It has the prospect search methods MD that it created. It found 32 digital methods, it gave us 33 different example searches and 6 non digital options for us.
- 4:15
Next thing we're going to do, just as a refining pass, is make sure that all the options that it presents to us are broken up by free, paid, and of course in person, paid and free. So let's go ahead and do that. Could you please edit the document to make sure that there's a clear delineation between free paid in both the digital and non digital options? All right. Looks like it came back and it made those changes for us.
- 4:42
We've saved that to the project context. Now the next thing we want to do is actually put together a list of these prospects. We're going to just ask it for company level. The next step would be of course, finding the people at the company. Could you please put together a list of 20 prospects for us using the sources that you have available as far as where we should be looking as well as who we should be looking for. Specifically I want you to put together this company list.
- 5:09
Include the name, where you got the prospect from, what method you used to get to them, specifically if there was a certain website that you went to on the sources or the searches, as well as the buying trigger as to why we would be going after them. And then the suggested next step of what person at the company we should be reaching out to.
- 5:35
All right, and it's finished up here. And it did a great job. It worked for 15 minutes and found us 20 company prospects which it very well could have found us hundreds, maybe even thousands. But we don't need that much to make a good business. Right? You don't have to have 10,000 people you're reaching out to if the people you reach out to are so high quality. So let's go ahead and take a look here. First one Acme United, it said that where it found it company investor news method used its results search, then officer verification.
- 6:08
And the buying trigger it said the My Medic acquisition and integration. So I should reach out to their CFO, explore faster acquisition reviews and monthly commentary. Okay, that's good. Ampco Pittsburgh company announcement was filed with the SEC. Production shifts following its UK facility. I want to reach out to the CEO, discuss preparation for their operating footprint reviews.
- 6:33
Okay. You can see that each one of these is well crafted. And what we might want to do is we might even want to take this, this first batch of 20 and we might want to tighten up the buying trigger too. We might want to say the buying trigger has to have happened in the last month or it has to be only U.S. based. For us, things like that are going to really help us to shape this and get value out of it. But what we've essentially started with, we started with no idea about our company, to a good understanding of our company, no idea about how to go and find these prospects to a good repeatable search process that's in depth and giving us high quality people.
- 7:16
Now you might think, okay, this is 20. What do I do now? Well the next thing you would do is you would go find the outreach channel that makes the most sense to approach from and that's going to be different based on your industry. And that will be something that we'll cover in another video if there's interest. Hopefully this is helpful for you. Let me know if you like these kind of videos. you know, I'm trying to build this channel into something that's more sales focused, more owner specific so if this is something that resonates with you, these kind of step by step tutorials, I would love to keep making them for you.
